NOM-001-SCFI-2018

Electronic devices – Safety requirements and test methods (cancels NOM-001-SCFI-1993).

Applies to electronic equipment and its accessories that use public service electricity for their power supply with single-phase supply voltages up to 277 V AC at 60 Hz and/or three-phase voltages up to 480 V AC between lines at 60 Hz; as well as other energy sources such as batteries, accumulators, self-generation and alternative power sources of up to 500 V DC.

This Mexican Official Standard is applicable to new, second-line, discontinued, rebuilt, reconditioned, used or second-hand electronic equipment. Some examples of products:

o Radio receivers of one or more commercial frequency bands and one or more carrier modulation modes.

o Television screens of any technology.

o Video projectors, except those associated with data processing equipment or systems.

o Sound and/or vision amplifiers.

o Sound and image players and/or recorders of any technology (acetate, magnetic tape, digital disks, digital memories, etc. Such as cameras, dictation equipment, voice recorders, modular equipment, home theaters, sound bars, etc.).

o Speakers with integrated amplifier.

o Remote controls.

o Antenna signal converters and amplifiers.

o Closed circuit television and video monitors that are not associated with data processing equipment.

o Separate power supplies for appliances and battery replacement, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and battery chargers.

o Electronic musical instruments.

o Electronic accessories such as rhythm generators, tone generators (as individual equipment), synthesizers, musical instruments and anything used with electronic and non-electronic instruments.

o Video games and video game generating devices that connect to TV or monitors.

o Electronic toys.

o Professional electronic equipment (cameras, video cameras).

o Active speakers, loudspeakers and baffles.

o Alarm and video surveillance systems.

o Communication systems such as walkie talkies and similar, even if they are considered toys.

o Educational audio and/or video equipment.

o Video cameras.

o Jukeboxes.

o Antenna positioners.

o Civil band equipment.

o Intercom equipment that uses the low voltage network as a transmission medium.
o Television receivers.

o Multimedia equipment, which is not data processing equipment or is directly associated with data processing equipment.
o Electronic flash.

o Entertainment and personal service machines.

o Microwave ovens.

o Money handling machines (counters).

The above list is illustrative but not exhaustive, so new electronic products resulting from new electronic technologies may be included.
